The Stagecoach Vineyard: Stagecoach Vineyard is a high mountain vineyard
located within the Atlas Peak appellation of Napa Valley. Our
vineyards lie at the 1700 feet and are southwest facing. At this
elevation, soils are rocky, shallow and limited. The resulting wines
from Stagecoach Vineyard come from small berries packed with opulent
flavors. At these mountain elevations, Bordeaux varieties mature
slowly. This exceptionally long hand time develops rich Merlot;
wines the “Sideways” guys could only dream to dummy up to. The Vintage:
In 2005, we picked Stagecoach Vineyard, true to form, quite late in
the second week of October. The fruit had beautiful flavors and was
quite mature with sugars approaching 28 degrees Brix. Now that’s the
way you make Merlot that doesn’t suffer from Pinot envy.
Winemaking:
Open Top Tanks with Punch Down Fermentation
21 days Skin Contact (4 days Cold Soak)
Yeast: L2226 (A Rhone Valley isolate)
24 months In Barrel
48% New French Oak Barrel
Napa Valley Merlot Tasting Notes: Purple black in color with a slight red hue
lead into lovely lush aromas of sinuated sweet smoky cedar and
cherried black plum. The palate has buckets of flavor layers. It’s
sweet and savory, it’s seductive and it’s soft. Soft with merit,
though. Very tasty.
